Billy Brown

What’s old is new! Billy Brown is an OG member of the world renowned vocal group, Ray, Goodman & Brown AKA The Moments in one of their later incarnations.

The original Moments Richard Gross, Eric Olfus and John Morgan formed in 1964. They were later joined by a fourth member Mark Greene in 1966.

Their first hit was there second single and first release on Stang Records, a subsidiary of All Platinum, 'Not On The Outside' released in 1968.

However the track was origionally intended to be sung by Billy Brown and recorded by his then group The Broadways. Label owner Sylia Robinson did not believe his voice was right for the song and at the last minute changed the plan giving it to The Moments.

The label owned the group name so the members became interchangable. In 1969 The Moments were Al Goodnan, Billy Brown and original member John Morgan. Soon John Morgan was replaced by Johnny 'Moe' Moore who was then replaced by Harry Ray by 1970. The Ray, Goodman & Brown line up would be the one to endure and through their success help secure the labels future. For the same reason when this trio parted ways with the label they could no longer call themselves The Moments so recorded under their names Ray, Goodman & Brown.

Here Billy Brown and George Kerr have reunited to finally release Billy Brown's version of the classic 'Not On The Outside' which might be considered an even better version than that recorded by the original Moments

The flip is a George Kerr classic  'Look Over Your Shoulder' previously only available on the “A Moment With Friends - Ray, Goodman & Brown” CD from 2002 so this is the first Vinyl release. Covered many times it was first recorded by The O'Jays in 1968.

An essential killer double header!
